World Post Day 2022

Introduction – World Post Day is celebrated every year on October 9 across the world to celebrate the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) which was founded in Bern, Switzerland in the year 1874. This international day honors this union and highlights the role that the postal service plays in keeping people connected globally. This global day is celebrated in several ways across the world with many countries participating in the celebration.

Postal services have played an important role in connecting individuals across the world. Where there are no mobile, phone, and social media websites then people connected through postal services globally either send a new year card or letters or money order.

History – In the past, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress was held in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1969 and announced that World Post Day is observed every year on October 9 across the world. India plays a significant role in the induction of this international day. After the International Telecommunication Union, UPU is the second oldest international organization.

Theme – The theme of World Post Day in the year 2022 is ‘Post for Planet’ which concentrates on connecting people across the world.

Significance – World Post Day is celebrated every year across the world to highlight the importance of postal services in past. Presently we may use digital services to connect with family members and close friends worldwide. But postal services are still important position throughout the world. The main aim of this international day is to raise awareness about the importance of postal services in daily life and commemorate their contribution to worldwide economic and social development. As per the United Nations, there are more than 150 countries that celebrate World Post Day in different ways.

When there was no Internet in past then postal services play a significant role in connecting people across the world. India also participates in a weekly celebration annually on October 9 which marks the day by introducing new products and services in the postal services. This international day also honors those people who are working in the postal sector.
