Introduction – International Translational Day is celebrated every year on September 30 to raise awareness about the contribution of interpreters and translators across the world. This international day provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the translators is also called as the language professionals. This global day also celebrates the feast of the Bible translator, St. Jerome that is regarded as the patron saint of translators. St. Jerome is popular for translating most of the Bible into Latin from the Greek documents of the New Testament. The main aim of this international day is to create awareness about the translation industry and languages that play an important role in the growth of our society.

This international day also aims to honor the efforts of language specialists across the world. The entire world comprises different cultures with several languages then translators play an important role in communication between several countries. India also consists of several languages or cultures in many states thus translators are used in communicating between several states and people in our country. So, the main goal of this global day is to spread awareness of the translation industry and languages that play a significant role in our society.
History – The International Federation of Translators (FIT) introduced International Translation Day and is celebrated firstly in the year 1991. After that, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on May 24, 2017, and announced that International Translation Day which is celebrated annually on September 30 worldwide. The main purpose of this international day is to raise awareness about the importance of translators that play a significant role to ease communication between several countries with different languages and cultures.
Theme – The theme of International Translation Day in the year 2022 is “A World Barriers. The Role of Language Professionals in Building Culture, Understanding and Lasting Peace” which tells us about the importance of translators that also work as Language Professionals in making culture, understanding and permanent peace between several countries.
Significance – Presently, translators play a significant role in the development of social communication between several countries and states with different languages and cultures. The main aim of this international day is to spread awareness about the significance of translators that play an important role in the overall development of society. They also help in the translation of technical and scientific materials that convert from one language to another. Now, translators also help in promoting mutual respect for different cultures of many countries and the advancement of a better world through the support of the understanding of each other’s civilization. They play a significant role in bringing several countries together, simplifying dialogue, understanding and collaboration, and strengthening world peace and security, and contributing to the development of the whole world.
Translators are important. I speak a few languages but not all 5,000 so I sometimes need a translator in business and on vacation. Luckily we have google translate, which helps, but it certainly is not as good as a real translator.
