History – In the year 1996, the World Confederation of Physiotherapy (WCPT) declared that World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated every year on September 8 across the world. WCPT was founded on September 8, 1951, thus, this date is chosen to celebrate World Therapy Day worldwide. Firstly, World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated on September 8, 1996, globally.
The main goal of this international day is to spread awareness about the significant role of physiotherapists that play in keeping people fit and well. This international day also provides an opportunity to thank for the chronic pain therapies done by physiotherapists and their contribution to the medical field.
Theme – The theme of World Physical Therapy Day in the year 2022 is “Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis” which concentrates on the treatment of osteoarthritis and is a most common form of arthritis. Mostly osteoarthritis occurs at the joints where the cartilage dries up and weakens. The bones are softened by the cartilage at the connection of the joints and start to decay which is the main cause of osteoarthritis. The decay of bones occurs mainly due to old age in which the bones start rubbing against each other that causes immense pain.
Significance – Physiotherapy is a discipline or healthcare profession that includes several treatment modalities such as heat therapy, electrotherapy, exercises, massages, and many more. It helps in lowering pain and taking proactive essential corrective methods for the treatment of specific physical conditions completely. Physical therapy helps in restoring a patient that is suffering from physical pain and trauma after an injury. It also plays an important role to help patients for recovering from stroke and paralysis that enables a person to lean a daily life to the maximum after serious injuries.
