World Food Safety Day 2022

Introduction – World Food Safety Day is celebrated every year on June 7 across the world to draw attention and inspire action for preventing, managing, and detecting foodborne risks, human health, market access, tourism, sustainable development, and contributing to food security. This global day provides an opportunity for strengthening efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe, and notorious that lower the burden of foodborne diseases worldwide, and normal food safety on the public agenda.

Safe food is one of the important ways for good health. Unsafe or dirty foods are the main cause of several diseases that contribute to poor health conditions including micronutrient deficiencies, non-communicable or communicable diseases, mental illness, impaired growth, and many more. The main goal of this international day is to spread awareness and motivate action for avoiding, managing, and identifying foodborne hazards. History – The United Nations General Assembly announced that World Food Safety Day will observe on June 7 annually in the year 2018. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a resolution in the year 2020 for boosting food safety worldwide to ease the burden of foodborne disease. WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) jointly honor World Food Safety Day.

Theme – The theme of World Food Safety Day in the year 2022 is ‘’Safer food, Better health’’ which highlights the importance of a holistic approach to a safe food system for good health by preventing food-borne diseases. This international day aims to spread awareness about water and food pollution across the world.

Significance – Food plays an important role in our daily lives. This global day provides an opportunity for boosting efforts to make sure the safety of the food and lower the burden of foodborne illnesses across the world. The main purpose of this global day is to provide better health that prevents several foodborne infections globally. Human health, food security, market access, economic success, and sustainable development are all advantages of this global day across the world.
