International Red Panda Day 2021

Introduction – International Red Panda Day is observed on the third Saturday of September annually all around the world to spread awareness and support for the conservation of red pandas. This year, this day is celebrating on September 18, 2021.  Red Panda network introduced this day in the year 2010. The International Red Panda Day is firstly observed in the year 2010.

History – Red Panda Network (RPN) has introduced International Red Panda Day all around the world with more than 16 zoos and schools in the year 2010. It’s a serious problem is the population of the red panda is reducing worldwide. Now, more than 60 zoos are participated globally with over 100,000 visitors on Red Panda Day.

Important facts about Red Panda – Red Panda is also listed as an endangered animal on the IUCN Red List that is International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red list of Threatened Species is also known as IUCN Red List. The wild population of Red Panda is only about 10,000 and continues to reduce due to poaching and habitat loss.

There are two different types of red panda is Ailurus fulgens is commonly called as Himalayan Red Panda and Ailurus fulgens styani is also called as Chinese Red Panda that are mainly found in the Eastern Himalayan region and southwestern China. Most of the red panda mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. It also eats eggs, insects, and birds. Red Panda is also called as red bearcat or red cat-bear.

The important fact about Red Panda is that this animal spends about 55 percent of its days sleeping. Red Pandas prefer to live alone that do not normally gather but only join together in pairs during breeding seasons. The weight of the red panda is from 12 to 20 pounds and lives in the trees. Due to deforestation, illegal trade, and poaching, the population of the red panda is decreasing globally. Red Pandas are smaller than white and black pandas and they eat mostly bamboo. Red Pandas help in water clean, forest healthy, and the ecosystem vibrant. Another important facts about Red Panda are the female pandas stop breeding after the age of 12 and the average lifespan of Red Pandas is around 23 years.
