Nishad Kumar wins Silver Medal in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020

It’s a very proud moment for our country that Nishad Kumar wins the silver medal for India in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. He wins a silver medal in the men’s high jump (T-47) at the Tokyo Paralympics games. In the event, Nishad Kumar jumped 2.02m in the first attempt in the medal round. In the third attempt, he jumped 2.06m in the Paralympic games and wins a silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.

In past, the right hand of Nishad went into the fodder-cutting machine during helping his mother at home at an age of six years. After that, he was taken to a nearby hospital in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, but the hand had to be removed.

After two years, Nishad would choose for athletics under the coach of Ramesh in the Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Katohar Khurd. He would participate in 200m and 400m separately from the high jump. After that, Nishad won a silver medal in the high jump in the sub-junior category at the National School Games Patiala 2013. He came to Panchkula for training under Naseem Ahmed who was also the coach of Olympic gold medallist javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra.

 Nishad has also won the silver medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.83m in the National Para Athletics Championship Panchkula. He would appear as a champion with an effort of 1.92m in the World Para Grand Prix Dubai 2019 before getting a bronze medal with a jump of 1,99m at the World Para Championships Dubai 2019. He was also trained in Bengaluru under the coach,  Satyanarayan, who was also a coach of Rio Paralympic gold medallist Mariyyapan in the last one year.

After that, he was also won the gold medal in T46 category at the World Para Athletics Dubai 2021 which is a great achievement.
