Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

Introduction – The chemical name of vitamin B5 is pantothenic acid and is a water-soluble vitamin that is present naturally in several foods. This vitamin is also available in supplement form that offers a variety of health benefits. It helps in converting food into energy in the body.

Benefits of vitamin B5 – Vitamin B5 is necessary for

  • Synthesizing cholesterol
  • Appropriate functioning of the liver and nervous system

There is another study at Asahikawa Medical College in Japan, it is found that vitamin B5 may be helpful in the prevention of diabetes. According to research by the National Academy of Sciences of Grodno, Belarus, it also found that vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid is used for the treatment of diabetes.

Cosmetics use of vitamin B5 – Vitamin B5 is also used as a skin and hair product. It is also used in lotions and creams that are designed for moisturizing the skin. As per a study, it is found that vitamin B5 helps in preventing thinning hair. It can also apply to the skin in relieving itchiness and promoting healing from skin conditions such as insect bites, diaper rash, eczema, and poison ivy.

Sources of Vitamin B5 – As per the U.S. National Library of Medicine, it found that there are various sources of vitamin B5 or Pantothenic Acid are legumes, milk, mushrooms, broccoli, cabbage, avocados, white and sweet potato yeast, whole grain, organ meats such as kidneys and liver and many more.
