Madhubala (Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi)

Introduction – The real name of Madhubala is Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi, is an Indian Bollywood actress and is also one of the best and most beautiful actresses in the history of Indian cinema. Madhubala worked in about 70 movies and the highest paid stars n the 1959s. She was born on February 14 in the year 1933 and raised in Delhi. When the age of Madhubala was only 8 years old, she moved to Mumbai with her family members and also played short roles in the movie Basant, which was released in the year 1942. Madhubala also gained popularity in several movies Neel Kamal (1947), Mahal -Horror Movie (1949), and may romantic movies, such as Tarana (1951), Badal (1951), and Amar (1954). She also gained popularity in many other movies such as Mr & Mrs 55 (1955), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Half Ticket (1962), both Kala Pani and Howrah Bridge are crime movies, which was released in the year 1958, and the musical movie Barsaat Ki Raat, which was released in the year 1960.

Madhubala worked in the super top or successful movie or historical epic drama Mughal-e-Azam as the role of Anarkali, which was released in the year 1960. Mughal-e-Azam was one of the highest-grossing or best movie in India and Madhubala also nominated for the best actress in the Filmfare Award for her best performance in this movie. The last movie of Madhubala is Sharabi, which was released in the year 1964. Madhubala gain or earned media coverage for her relationship with the most popular actor Dilip Kumar in the early 1950s, and ended in the Naya Daur course case in the year 1956-57 when Dilip Kumar worked in the movie Naya Daur, which was released in the year 1957. After several years, Madhubala married popular actor and singer, Kishore Kumar in the year 1960. Later, Madhubala was suffering from ventricular septal defect (hole in the heart) and death at the age of only 36 on February 23 in the year 1969.

Career and life – Madhubala also called as Mumtaz Jehan Begum was born on February 14 in the year 1933 in the city of Delhi, British India. The name of Father and Mother of Madhubala are Aayesha Begum and Ataullah Khan. Madhubala was the fifth out of eleven children of Aayesha Beh=gum and Ataullah Khan but five children died in infancy. The name of sisters of Madhubala who survived in adulthood are Zeb Ataullah known as Chanchal, Zahida, Kaneez Fatima, Shahida, and Altaf. Ataullah Khan, father of Madhubala, belonged to the Yusufzai tribe of Pashtuns from Peshawar Valley and later worked in the Imperial Tobacco Company in the city of Delhi and Aayesha Begum, mother of Madhubala, belonged to Lahore, Pakistan. It is important to note that Madhubala was born with a congenital heart illness or disease, ventricular septal defect that had not treatment at that time.

 Madhubala spent childhood days in the city of Delhi and grew up with no health problems at that time. Madhubala worked with Khwaja Khurshid Anwar in All India at only 7 years old to earn money because her father misbehaves with a senior officer and lost his job in the year 1940. Later, she continued work for several months and became familiar with the general manager of the Bombay Talkies in Bombay (Mumbai) Raj Bahadur Chunnilal. Madhubala and her family members shifted to Mumbai in the year 1941 and she worked as a juvenile role in the movie Basant of Raj Bahadur Chunnillal at a pay of Rs 150, which was released in the year 1942. Later Madhubala worked in the movie Jwar Bhata in the year 1944. She was permanently settled in Mumbai and signed a 3-year contract with Ranjit Studios in the year 1944 and worked as a child role in several movies including Mumtaz Mahal (released in 1944) and Phoolwari (released in 1946) under the name of Baby Mumtaz. At that time, Madhubala earned R300 per month and became the only earning member of her family member. She felt or suffered with her first attack or bout of hemoptysis (coughing up blood) during the working in the movie Phoolwari in the year 1946. Later, Madhubala worked as the first leading role in the movie Neel Kamal of Kirdar Sharmawith popular actors Raj Kapoor and Begum Para at the age of only 14 years old in the year 1947. After that, she worked in the movie Dil Ki Rani and Chittor Vijay, which were released in the year 1947. Madhubala also appeared with Raj Kapoor in the movie Amar Prem in the year 1948.

Madhubala also appeared in the drama Lal Dupatta, which was released in the year 1948. She also worked and praised in several movies including Parai Aag (1948), and Paras (1949). Madhubala also appeared first time in horror movie Mahal with great actor Ashok Kumar, which was released on October 19, in the year 1949. She also gained popularity in the romantic musical movie Dulari, which was also released in the year 1949. Later, Madhubala had relationship with actor Prem Nath but they broke up due to religious differences and she had affair with popular actor Dilip Kumar while working in the movie Tarana, which was released in the year 1951. She worked in movies Saqi with Prem Nath and the romantic movie Sangdil, which was released in the same year 1952. Madhubala also worked in two movies Rail Ka Dibba with a popular actor Shammi Kapoor and second movie Armaan with Dev Anand, which was released in the same year 1953 but both movies were unsuccessful in box office. Later, Madhubala introduced his production company Madhubala Pvt Ltd with her father, Ataullah Khan in the year 1953. The health of Madhubala was faltered or weakened and suffered from buts of hemoptysis for the first time when she was working in the movie Bahut Din Huwe in the year 1954. Madhubala worked as a social worker in the movie Amar with Dilip Kumar and Nimmi, which is directed by Mehboob Khan and was released in the year 1954. She also appeared in the movie Mr and Mrs 55 with a popular actor Gurudutt. Madhubala gained popularity in the relationship with Dilip Kumar but Ataullah Khan, father of Madhubala against the marriage. Later, Madhubala and Dilip Kumar ended their relationship due to a legal dispute in the movie Naya Daur in the year 1956. The superhit movie Mughal e Azam was briefly suspended and may faced difficulty to complete this movie due to a break up between Madhubala and Dilip Kumar.

Later, Madhubala worked in the movie Shirin Farhad with a actor Pradeep Kumar in the year 1956. She appeared in the movie Kala Pani with Dev Anand, which was released in the year 1958. Later, she also worked in the movie Howrah Movie with a popular actor Ashok Kumar, which was released in the year 1958. Madhubala also worked in the movie Phagun with a lead actor Bharat Bhushan, which was released in the same year 1958. She also worked in the comedy movie Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi with a popular actor Kishore Kumar, which was released in the year 1958. Madhubala started a relationship with Kishore Kuma after break up with Dilip Kumar on the set of Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi movie when Kishore Kumar was going divorce legal proceedings with his first wife, Ruma Guha Thakurta.

Madhubala also worked in the movie Insan Jaag Utha with lead actor Sunil Dutt, which was released in the year 1959. She also worked in the movie Kal Hamara Hai with a lead actor Bharat Bhushan, which was released in the year 1959. Later, Madhubala appeared in the crime thriller movie Do Ustad with a lead actor Raj Kapoor and Sheikh Mukhtar, which was released in the year 1959. The health of Madhubala was declining while working in the romantic comedy movie Jhumroo with a lead actor Kishore Kumar, which was released in the year 1961. She also worked in the movie Mehon Ka Khwab with a lead actor Kishore Kumar, and was directed by Muhafiz Haider, which was released in the year 1960. At that time, the historic epic Mughal e Azam was released om August 6 in the year 1960, which broke records and became the highest-grossing or superhit movie and received 11 nominations at the 8th Filmfare Awards including Best Actress for Madhubala. Later, Madhubala worked in the crime movie Jaali Note with a lead actor Dev Anand, which was released in the year 1960. She also worked in the romantic musical movie Barsaat Ki Raat with a lead actor Bharat Bhushan, which was released in the year 1960. Later, Madhubala also worked in the movie Sharabi with a lead actor Dev Anand, which was released in the year 1964.

Due to the declining health of Madhubala, Ataullah Khan, father of Madhubala had planned to visit London for the treatment of his daughter’s heart condition. Madhubala wanted to marry because she feared dying of operation, which carried a considerable risk of her life. So, she proposed to Kishore Kumar, who divorced his first wife Ruma Ghosh in the year 1958. Later, Madhubala married the gear actor, Kishore Kumar on October 16, in the year 1960 on the nest day of marriage. After marriage, Madhubala suffered from increasing vomiting blood and difficulty in breathing, which may cause severe weakness. Due to declining health of Madhubala, she contacted to popular cardiologist, Dr. Rustom Jal Vakil, which may little hope for her recovery or life but recommended to consult with a doctor in London for treatment. So, Madhubala and Kishore Kumar went to London and contacted to Dr S.V. Golwala in the year 1961. The trip to London as a honeymoon for Madhubala and Kishore Kumar new couple at that time. But doctors refused to perform the operation in London because of the risk of complications and advised to decrease anxiety and stress. Madhubala alive for 7 and a half years. Dilip Kumar also visited and met with Madhubala for the last time.

Death – The condition of Madhubala was deteriorated or worsened as she suffered from a high fever of 105-degree Fahrenheit, which was complicated by jaundice on February 21, in the year 1969. On the next day, Madhubala died in the morning at 9:30 a.m. at the age of only 36 on February 23, in the year 1969 after nine days of her birthday. She was buried at Juhu Muslim Cemetery in Santacruz as per Sunni Rites in the city of Mumbai. The tomb of Madhubala was constructed, which is made up of marble with inscriptions of aayats from the Holy Quran, and several verse dedications.
