Four important functions of food for our body

Food – Food is a nutritive substance taken by an organism for growth, repair, work, and maintaining life process. Food is a kind of fuel for living things. The main food that we eat to provide us energy is known as staple food.

Functions of food – The food perform the following functions in our body are given below –

  1. It provides material for the growth of the body. Growing bodies need extra amounts of the nutrients such as carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, and fats.
  2. It provides energy to do work and to maintain body heat. We get energy provided by food that is proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
  3. It regulates body processes to maintain life. Vitamins, water, and minerals in the  food help regulate breathing the nervous system, blood circulation or blood flow,  digestion, and elimination of waste products from the body. Minerals, vitamins, and proteins keep the body tissues and organs healthy. Healthy organs are less likely to be attacked by dusease.
  4. Ir provides materials for the repair of danaged cells and tissues of our body. Every person whether growing or not is going through a continual repair process of replacing injured or dead cells, food supplies the nutrients necessary for the process.
