India battted and made a huge score and declared at 448/5d in the first inning due to great batting by Dhurv Jurel 125 (210), Ravindra Jadeja 104* (176), K.L. Rahul 100 (197), and Shubman Gill 50 (100). Roston Chase 2/90 (24), Jayden Seales 1/53 (19), Khary Pierre 1/91 (29), and Jomel Warrican 1/102 (29) were wicket-taker bowlers from the West Indies side. After this inning, India lead by 286 runs against West after the first inning.

In the second inning, West Indies was all out at only 146 runs in the second inning and lost the first test match by an inning and 140 runs with India due to great bowling by Ravindra Jadeja 4/54 (13), Mohammed Siraj 3/31 (11),  Kuldeep Yadav 2/23 (8.1), and Washington Sundar 1/18 (7). Both Alice Athanaze 38 (74), and Justin Greaves 25 (52) were good batting from the West Indies side.
