Sir M. Visvesvaraya was born in September 15, 1861 in a Telugu Brahmin at a small village near Chikkaballapur district in the state of Karnataka. He received a BSc degree from Madras University and also completed a Diploma in Civil Engineering (DCE) from Bombay University, which is affiliated with the College of Engineering, Pune. M. Visvesvaraya established the Government Engineering College, which is currently known as Bengaluru’s Visvesvaraya Technological University. He received the Bharat Ratna in the year 1955 for his outstanding contributions to economic, social projects, and industry in our country. Sir M. Visvesvaraya was also graced with the British Knighthood by King George V, which put ‘’Sir’’ before his name due to his great contribution to our country. In the past, he also worked as Diwan of Mysore between 1912 and 1918. The nation pays tribute to Sir M. Visvesvaraya on this day.

Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya started his career to work in Bombay Presidency, and many other British-based colonies in the Middle East and also work for British Government in India and after that he worked for Hyderabad State. Later, he became an assistant engineer at the Public Works Deoartment in the year 1885 in Bombay Presidency. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya also worked as the chief engineer of Mysore State. He was also worked as the chief engineer of the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam, which is situated at Mysore and was also the chairman of board engineers who worked for the Tungabhadra Dam in the city of Hospet, Karnataka. Maharaj Krishnaraja Wadiyar 1V appointed Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya as Dewan of Mysore in the year 1912 and continuously work for 7 years until in the year 1918.

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, awarded the Bharat Ratna in the year 1955 for his landmark or great contributions to national development, was instrumental in designing reservoirs, dams, and hydropower projects, significantly shaping India’s engineering and educational landscape. Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya served as chief engineer for several significant infrastructure projects, including the flood protection system in Hyderabad and the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam in Karnataka. He is also recognized as the ‘Father of Modern Mysore’ due to his pivotal role in developing the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam.
Due to his great achievement, our country celebrates the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya , an eminent or well-known civil engineer of India as Engineer’s Day on September 15 across India.
