Introduction – United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated every year on June 23 to recognize or honor the invaluable contribution and significant role of public service in the development and growth of the country and to appreciate the importance of all public institutions and public servants worldwide. This global day emphasizes the contribution and important role of public services in the development of all sectors in the country all around the world. The main aim of this international day is to commemorate the creative work done by all public servants with their pure devotion for effective and responsive administration. This International Day also encourages young individuals to pursue their careers in the public sector.

History – The United Nations General Assembly approved the resolution 57/277 on December 20, 2002, and declared to celebrate United Nations Public Service Day annually on June 23 to highlight the invaluable contributions and creative achievements of all public servants and public institutions across the world. The United Nations also established the United Nations Public Service Awards to honor the contributions and creative work done by all public servants with several events organized to celebrate this global day. The United Nations Public Service Awards were also reviewed in the year 2006 to align with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development worldwide.

Significance – Public Services play a significant role in the development and growth of the country because it helps to bring about the achievement and modernization of Sustainable Development Goals. This international day emphasizes the important role of all public servants in the development and growth of their nations. The main goal of this international day is to reward public servants for their creative work that promotes public services among young individuals across the world. It also encourages youngsters to participate in several public service competitions and do creative work for the growth and development of their countries with dedication and hard work. The United Nations also organized the ceremony of Public Service Awards to give prizes to public servants to their development work for their countries.
