International Olympic Day 2025

Introduction – International Olympic Day is also called as World Olympic Day, which is celebrated annually on June 23 to honor the foundation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the year 1894. This International Day provides a platform to encourage young sportsmen and celebrate their achievements. It also empowers young individuals to achieve their sporting dreams and struggle for excellence by highlighting the success stories of young athletes in the Olympics. The main purpose of this international day is to encourage young individuals to take part in the Olympics or any other big sports tournament worldwide.

Big sports tournaments such as the Olympics have the power to promote peace, foster understanding among different countries or cultures, and unite people across the world. Young individuals contribute to a legacy of global cooperation and sporting excellence worldwide by participating in the Olympic games for their countries. International Olympic Day was organized by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) annually on June 23 to honor or celebrate the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on June 23, 1894, in Sorbonne, Paris.

History – Dr Gruss, A Czechoslovakia IOC Member, proposed the idea to observe International Olympic Day in the 41st session of the International Olympic Committee in Stockholm, Sweden in 1947 to promote sports among young individuals. The idea of Dr Gruss to celebrate International Olympic Day was approved in the 42nd session in St Moritz in January 1948 and June 23 was selected to honor the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Thus, International Olympic Day was first celebrated on June 23, 1948, to encourage sports among young individuals worldwide.
