In the first thrilling T20 match, India won the match by only 2 runs with Sri Lanka due to great performance in batting and bowling. After winning this match, India leads by (1-0) in the three T20 match series against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first thus India first batted and made a good score of 162/5 in 20 overs due to good batting by Deepak Hooda 41* (23), Ishan Kishan 37 (29),  Axar Patel 31* (20), and Hardik Pandya 29 (27). Dhnanjaya de Silva 1/6 (1), Chamika Karunaratne 1/22 (3), Wanindu Hasaranga 1/22 (4), Maheesh Theekshana 1/29 (4), and Dilshan Madhushanka 1/35 (4) were good bowling from the Sri Lanka side. After this inning, India set a good target of 163 runs in 20 overs for Sri Lanka to win the first T20 match.

During chasing, Sri Lanka was all out at 160 runs in 20 overs and lose the match by only 2 runs with India due to good bowling by Shivam Mavi 4/22 (4), Umran Malik 2/27 (4), and Harshal Patel 2/41 (4). Dasun Shanaka 45 (27), Kusal Mendis 28 (25), and Chamika Karunaratne 23* (16) were good batting from the Sri Lanka side.

Deepak Hooda (IND), 41* (23), was declared as the Player of the Match due to his great performance in batting.
