It was a proud moment for our country that Sanket Mahadev Sargar won the first medal for India in the Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022. Sanket won the silver medal in men’s 55 kg weightlifting with a total lift of 248kg (113 +135) at the commonwealth games 2022. 

Sanket Mahadev Sargar is the leading national-level champion in the weight category of 55kg. Previously, he had also earned a gold medal at the Singapore Weightlifting global event in February with a lift of 256kg (113 + 143). He also won a gold medal with a lift of 113kg at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in December 2021 in Tashkent.

Sanket belongs to Sangli in the state of Maharashtra where his father Mahadev runs a ‘paan’ shop and food stall.
