It’s a very proud moment for our country that Indian weightlifter, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won the first gold medal with a total of 201kg for India in the women’s 49 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. It is the third medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Previously, Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the women’s 49kg in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast in Australia.  Mirabai Chanu also earned a gold medal in the women’s 48kg category at World Championships in Anaheim.

Mirabai Chanu was also awarded the Padma Shri for her great contributions to the sport by the Government of India. She was also awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, the sporting honor by the Government of India in the year 2018.
