International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2002

Introduction – International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is also known as World Drug Day is celebrated annually on June 26 to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve a world free of drug abuse. The main aim of this international day is to spread awareness about issues that are associated with drugs and illicit trafficking and make the whole world free of drug abuse. Several organizations and communities come together against drug abuse and illicit trafficking to inform people about difficulties which are faced by society because of illicit drugs across the world.

History – The United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution on December 7, 1987, and decided to celebrate International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every year on June 26 all around the world. The main purpose of this international day is to make society free of drug abuse across the world.

Theme – The theme of the international day in the year 2022 is ‘’Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises’’. The United Nations Office On Drug and Crime (UNODC) is to achieve a whole world is free of drug abuse.

Significance – The main purpose of this international day is to keep especially young people away from drugs and control drug smuggling. On this day, several programs are organized in which people are made aware of the ill effects of drug addiction. This international day concentrate is to spread awareness about the harmful impacts of drug abuse on society and create a world free of drug abuse. This international day aims to create awareness about the major problem that illicit drugs pose to society.
