United Nations Public Service Day 2022

Introduction – United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated every year on June 23 to appreciate the value of public servants and public institutions. This international day highlights the contribution and important role of public services in the development of all sectors across the world. The main purpose of this day is to honor the creative work done by the public servants and their sheer dedication to responsive and effective public administration. On this day, it also inspires youngsters for pursuing their careers in the public sector.

History – United Nations General Assembly accepted the resolution on December 20, 2002, and decided to celebrate United Nations Public Service Day every year on June 23 to highlight the contributions and creative achievements of public servants and public institutions. The United Nations established United Nations Public Service Awards to enhance and contribute to the visibility, prestige, and role of public service in the year 2003. The United Nations Public Service Awards were reviewed in the year 2006 to align with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

Theme – The theme of United Nations Public Service Day in the year 2022 is ‘’Building back better from Covid-19: Enhancing innovative partnerships to meet the Sustainable Development Goal’’ which concentrates on the significant role of public servants and public institutions to build back better from Covid-19. The main goal of this international day is to meet the 2030 deadline for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Significance – Public Services play an important role for common people because it helps to bring about the achievement and modernization of Sustainable Development Goals. This international day highlights the central role that technology and innovation play a significant role in the delivery of public services. The main aim of this global day is to reward public services to promote public servants for hard work efficiently for their countries. On this day, the United Nations also organize the ceremony of Public Service Awards to reward contributions of public service institutions across the world.
