Introduction – World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed every year on June 15 to spread awareness about the difficulties of elderly people who are harmed and abused across the world. As per a report, adult children and many other family members are the main abusers of old people at home. The main purpose of this global day is for old people to enjoy fully their fundamental rights such as living with dignity in family or society, the right to health, and suitable social security. Old people may be abused financially, psychologically, physically, socially, and under ill-treatment by youngsters. But the problem of elder people’s abuse cases especially at home by close family members was not reported. Several elder people may be ill-treated by youngsters in society.

History – The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) recognized World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be celebrated every year on June 15 since 2006. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was observed to lower the cases of elder abuse by the United Nations in the year 2011. Due to offense and fear, elder people would rarely speak out about ill-treatment by close family members. especially youngsters or children at home.
Theme – The theme of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is ‘’Digital Equity for All Ages’’ which marks to help those old people who are the victims of violence, abuse, and bad behaviour by their family members and society.
Significance – Presently, most of the family members including children abuse elder people at home is one of the world’s least addressed problems worldwide. This day provides an opportunity for old people to speak against abuse by their family members or many others individuals across the world. Abuse of elder people is a universal social problem that impacts health and weakens the dignity of millions of elder individuals in society. There are some cases of murders of elder people by young individuals for stealing or robbing.
