World Blood Donor Day 2022

Introduction – World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on June 14 across the world to spread awareness about the importance of blood donation for patients and thank to blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. The main purpose of this global day is to encourage regular blood donations for ensuring that all individuals have access to inexpensive and timely supplies of safe blood in the need of emergency to patients.

History – World Health Organization announced that the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner is celebrated as a World Blood Donor Day in the year 2004. World Health Organization and its 192 member states have introduced this global day for all countries to promote blood donors for their selfless efforts in saving the lives of people during the 58th Globe Health Assembly in May 2005. This international day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2005 by the joint initiative of the International Federation of Red Crescent Societies and Red Cross and the World Health Organization across the world.

Theme – The theme of World Blood Donor Day is ‘’Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives’’ which concentrates to draw attention for the roles of blood donor that saves the lives of people. The theme of this international day also highlights the need for blood donors for regular blood donation to maintain satisfactory supplies and timely blood available for patients.

Significance – Blood donors play an important role in saving people’s lives all around the world. The main goal of this global day is to promote awareness about blood products and blood donation for patients. This international day also provides an opportunity for governments and health authorities to maintain supplies of blood for saving the lives of people all over the world.
