Earlier India won the toss and chose to bat first and made a huge score of 184/7 (20) due to great batting by Rohit Sharma 56 (31), Ishan Kishan 29 (21), Shreyas Iyer 25 (20), and Deepak Chahar 21* (8). Mitchell Santner 3/27 (4), Trent Boult 1/31 (4), and Ish Sodhi 1/31 (4) were good bowling from the New Zealand side.

During chasing, New Zealand was all out at 111/10 in 17.2 overs and lost this match by 73 runs due to great bowling by Axar Patel 3/9 (3), Harshal Patel 2/26 (3), and Venkatesh Iyer 1/12 (3). Only Martin Guptill 51 (36) batting well from the New Zealand side.

Due to his great performance in bowling, Axar Patel (IND) 3/9 (3), was declared as the Player of the Match.
