The deficiency of vitamin B2 or riboflavin causes a disease known as ariboflavinosis. The lack of vitamin B2 in the diet causes a fissure of skin including cracking of the skin at the corners of the mouth, soreness, and inflammation of the mouth and tongue. The deficiency of vitamin B2 or riboflavin also causes photophobia and lesions of the eye that lead to an eye known as a cataract.
