Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the Wi-Fi network has been launched in several places in Mumbai with 500 Wi-Fi hotspots in phase 1.
It is the largest Wi-Fi service in Mumbai and 700 hotspots will be introduced on May 1, 2017. The May 1 is celebrated as Maharashtra day. Totally 1,200 Wi-Fi hotspots will be available in Maharashtra on May 1, 2017.
At about 23,000 users registered in Mumbai in the trial of Wi-Fi network from January 2 to 8 and downloaded around 2TB data.
The free service of Wi-Fi is available till January 31which is also introduced at the offices of Mumbai Police Commissioner, Vidhan Bhavan, KalaNagar in Bandra, Bombay High Court and other prominent public places in the city and suburbs.
For Wi-Fi service the Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation (MITC) has deal with Hewlett Packard and Fortinet belong to US.
The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd is the bandwidth provider and Larsen & Toubro is the systems integrator for the Wi-Fi service in Mumbai.
Earlier the Wi-Fi service is available at important railway stations in Mumbai for travellers and many private main places including malls, cinemas, restaurants, hotels provide limited free Wi-Fi access to their customers.
