Mangal Sutra – Mangal means auspicious and Sutra means thread or string. A mangal sutra is basically a black and gold beaded necklace with gold or diamond pendant.
Tying mangal sutra round the neck of wife by the husband is one of the most sacred customs in Hindu weddings. It is worn by the bride until he husband death. The mangal sutra changes the girl into conscious woman about her dharma, duty, and ruler. It also shows the marital status of women. It also depicts the union of the husband and the wife , which protect them from evil.
It originated from South India and later came to North India. Now, it is prevalent in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Sindoor – Sindoor is traditional vermillion red or orange-red colored cosmetic powder, which is prepared by using turmeric, mercury, and lime. Medically benefit as it is used in controlling blood pressure and maintaining the brain alert and active. Sindoor also holds a lot of importance in Hindu society. It is considered extremely auspicious tradition in which husband applies sindoor in the parting of the hair of the bride for the first time. Later, women regularly apply sindoor till the death of their husbands.
According to Hindu astrology, applying sindoor brings good fortune to wife and husband. Hindus believed that the Goddess Paravati protects all those men whose wives apply sindoor as it is the symbol of female energy of Goddess Paravati.
