Flower is very popular for gift in birthdays, parties, and also in Valentine’s Day. Flowers are also used in marriages for decorations in the house. The flower has a thin node which supports it. The pollen in the flowers are carried by different medium like animals, insects, wind etc. which result in the birth these plants.
Flowers are popular due to its beautiful color and scent with good smell.
Color:
The color in flowers is due to Anthocyanins, the pigment which gives red, mauve, blue, purple, and violet colors to the flowers. These pigments are dissolved in sap of cell of the flower. Other colors say yellow, orange, and green are due to other pigments which include chlorophyll, carotene etc. There is no chemical link between them. Anthocyanins are in the class of chemicals called as flawanoids, which gives plants their color. Other pigments are carotenoids, which is found in tomatoes and carrots that provide orange and yellow color in plastids. Chlorophyll is the most well-known or popular pigment, which provides all the green in foliage and leaves.
The color of a flower is decided by the hereditary genome of the plant to which it belongs, therefore colors of the flower of a plant is decided long before the flower are born. Several flowers like forget-me-nots, lungworts, or other members of the Borage family changes color from pink to blue. This indicates to insects the flower has aged and is past pollination. Actually, the colors of flowers are to attract insects for the action pollination to produce seeds. The colors in flowers are attrubuted to pigments called anthocyanins and to other pigments called plastids. One group supplies a certain range of colors and rest of the colors are supplied by the other group.
Scent:
The scent in flowers is due to certain essential oil, which is found in the petals. The plant grow and in the process oils are produced. These essential oils are a complex substance. This substance is broken under certain conditions. On decomposition, it is formed into a volatile oil that evaporates readily. We can smell the fragrance on evaporation. Depending upon the presence of chemicals in that volatile oil, the specific type of fragrance is given off. Various combinations produce different scents. These oils are found in barks, leaves, seeds, fruits, and roots of plant apart from the flowers.
