What is Dental Fluorosis

Dental Fluorosis – It is extremely common disorder due to hypomineralization of tooth enamel, which is caused by ingestion of excessive fluoride during enamel formation. Due to dentist fluorosis, faint white lines or long narrow irregular lines on teeth occur when younger children consume too much fluoride from any source over long period and teeth are developing under gums. After teeth come out through the guns, development of fluorosis end. This takes place before eught years of age. Visual changes in enamel appear causing teeth discoloration.

Discoloration – Due to fluorosis, it may result discoloration. Red discoloration may develop instantly. It may also develop blue-brown then grey and yellow.

Care – To reduce or avoid the possibility of huge intake of fluoride, care should be taken in the early age of children. There are some points for precautions in the dental fluorosis are as given below-

  1. Supervise brushing so that children do not use too much toothpaste and learns to spit not to swallow.
  2. Avoid beverages and food processed with fluoridatef water.
  3. Avoid fluoridated drinking water.
  4. Avoid use of fluoride toothpaste by children below eight years ago.

So, early age is very essential to protect from dental fluorosis.
