World Ovarian Cancer Day 2026

Introduction – World Ovarian Cancer Day is celebrated every year on May 8 worldwide to spread awareness about the impacts, symptoms, causes, and risk factors of ovarian cancer. This global day concentrates on ovarian cancer awareness, symptoms, early diagnosis, better treatment and care, and support for women, who are suffered from this disease. The main aim of this international day is to raise awareness about ovarian cancer among common people across the world.

Ovarian cancer – It is an uncontrolled growth of cells in the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or peritoneum with several symptoms, such as abdominal bloating, wright loss, swelling, pelvic pain, back pain, frequent urination, and many more. Generally, ovarian cancer is treated with chemotherapy, and surgery Early detection of ovarian cancer improves survival rates, but several cases of this cancer are diagnosed at advanced stages. Ovarian cancer may start in ovaries in the female reproductive system where eggs form but sometimes, it is difficult to diagnose or detect this cancer as symptoms may not develop until later stages. This type of cancer mainly occurs in ovaries, which are the part of female reproductive system.

Symptoms – When ovarian cancer first develops, it may not cause any obvious symptoms so it is difficult to early detect. However, there are several symptoms of ovarian cancer are given below –

  • Stromal tumors. These rare tumors, which are commonly diagnosed at an earlier stage as compared with other ovarian cancers.
  • Germ cell tumors. it is rare type of ovarian cancers, which may occur at a younger age

  • Targeted therapy – This treatment of ovarian cancer, which uses drugs or medicines to identify and attack cancer cells on cancerous part of the body.
  • Hormone therapy – This type of therapy may help in stopping or reducing the growth of cancer.  Sometimes radiation therapy may use for the treatment of ovarian cancer.
