Tuberculosis, Symptoms and Stages, Causes, Risk Factors, and Prevention

Tuberculosis – It os also known as TB, is a serious and infectious disease that mainly causes infection or affects the lungs and many other tissues. Tuberculosis may also spread to several other parts of the human body, including the brain, kidneys, and spine. The main cause of tuberculosis is the bacterium named Mycobacterium. Tuberculosis can spread easily when an individual sneezes or coughs, releasing droplets with germs into the air, and individuals may breathe in and inhale droplets, so germs enter their lungs. This infectious disease can spread easily in crowded areas of the city.

Symptoms and Stages – When Tuberculosis (TB) germs may survive and increase or multiply in the lungs, then it is known as Tuberculosis (TB) infection, which is divided into stages

  • Primary Tuberculosis (TB) Infection – It is the first stage of tuberculosis and is also called as primary infection . In this stage, the immune system of the human body may destroy the germs, but several germs can still survive and multiply in the human body. Due to primary infection, most individuals may have no symptoms are tiredness, low fever, and cough.
  • Latent Tuberculosis (TB) infection – It is another stage infection of tuberculosis is called as Latent Tuberculosis (TB) infection. In this stage of tuberculosis (TB), the immune system cells of the human body may build or create a wall around lung tissue, so that germs do not harm, but the germs survive with no symptoms.
  • Active Tuberculosis (TB) disease -It is another stage of tuberculosis in which germs may cause disease throughout the lungs or spread several other parts of the human body. This stage of tuberculosis may occur after primary tuberculosis (TB) infection. However, active tuberculosis (TB) disease commonly may occur after several months or years of latent tuberculosis (TB) infection.  In this stage, the lungs commonly started gradually and deteriorate over several weeks. The symptoms of Active Tuberculosis (TB) disease are chest pain, weight loss, cough, fever, coughing with blood or mucus, tiredness, night sweats, and many more.
  • Active Tuberculosis (TB) disease outside the lungs – In this stage, tuberculosis (TB) infection may spread from the lungs to several other parts of the human body, which is called as extrapulmonary tuberculosis. The symptoms of active tuberculosis (TB) disease  may differ or depending on what part of the human body is infected, but common symptoms are chills, reduce weight, fever, tiredness, night sweats, and many more.

Causes – The main cause of tuberculosis is a bacterium known as Mycobacterium. Tuberculosis can spread easily if any person sings, coughs, sneezes, laughs, and many more, then releasing droplets in the air carrying bacterial and when any person breathes in the air, then droplets with bacteria can enter their lungs. When an individual is in a crowded place, it may increase the risk of getting infected with tuberculosis. It may also spread when an infected person laughing, speaking, sneezing, and coughing may release small droplets  and other people inhale the droplets and get an infection.

Risk Factors – There are several risk factors of this disease are given below –

  • Live with an infected person.
  • Go to a crowded place.
  • Work with an infected person in the office.
  • Work in a hospital to treat an infected person.

Prevention – if individuals are suffering from tuberculosis, then they should stay at their homes to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in society. There are several other precautions taken by you with tuberculosis, which are given below –

  • Early detection
  • Must stay at your home
  • Isolate at your home
  • Must vaccinated
  • Should wear face masks
  • Must cover your mouth
  • Ventilate your rooms in your homes.
