World Sparrow Day 2026

World Sparrow Day is celebrated annually on March 20 worldwide to raise awareness about the importance of beautiful bird sparrows for our biodiversity and ecosystem. The main aim of this global day is to raise awareness about the importance of birds like sparrows for our environment, ecosystem, and biodiversity. Mohammad Dilawar established Nature Forever Society of India who celebrated first World Sparrow Fay in the year 2010 in partnership with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France. The theme of this global day in the year 2026 is ‘I Love Sparrow’ to highlight the personal connection between sparrow and individuals.

Sparrows are very important for our ecosystem by supporting plant growth and developing biodiversity that supports a greener and healthier environment. Sparrows consume and excrete or discharge seeds that are beneficial in spreading better plant seeds which makes the green and better environment for people. However, the population of sparrows is rapidly decreased that may have negative effects on our ecosystem.  Thus, this international day aims to save and protect sparrows to save our biodiversity and environment across the world.

Sparrows are very common birds and lived in colonies and public places including railway stations and bus stands. The morning starts with the chirping of sparrows in childhood days which makes me smile and happy in the early morning.  I also remembered the chirping of sparrows which brought many happy memories during childhood days. The main goal of this global day is to save and conservation of birds like sparrows for a green environment and better ecosystem for future life. You can also celebrate this international day by sharing the benefits of these birds like sparrows for a better and green environment on several social media websites.
