World Oral Health Day 2026

World Oral Health Day is celebrated annually on March 20 worldwide to raise awareness about oral health and the importance of oral hygiene. The main purpose of this global day is to encourage people to take care of their gums and teeth worldwide. This international day provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of oral hygiene practices for children and adults across the world. FDI World Dental Federation introduced or celebrate World Oral Health Day to encourage individuals to brush regularly, which may lower the risk of oral diseases worldwide.

Individuals can prevent or lower the risk of gum diseases, tooth decay, and bone loss by taking care of their gums and teeth. The main causes of oral diseases are smoking, eating pan masala, and many other unhealthy eating that may lead to social isolation, discomfort, pain, and many other health problems. So, the main goal of this international day is to educate people to take care of their teeth which prevents or reduces the risk of several oral or dental diseases.

Presently, people avoid oral health or do not regularly brush their teeth which may cause several dental diseases including gum disease, tooth decay, oral cancer, and many more, and is not good for your health. Young persons intake a large amount of alcohol and sugar, smoke tobacco, take pan masala, and many other unhealthy things that may cause several oral or dental diseases. Thus, you can regularly brush your teeth, avoid using tobacco, reduce your intake of sugar and alcohol, and have a balanced diet that prevents and lowers the risk of several dental diseases.

It is important to note that oral health is very important for our health because it is associated with several aspects of social, mental, and physical health. Good or healthy oral hygiene may prevent several dental problems including bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease, and also lower the risk of diabetes, respiratory infections, and several heart diseases. Thus, the main goal of this global day is to educate young people to take care of their teeth by regularly brushing their teeth, avoiding intake of a large amount of alcohol and sugar, and smoking tobacco worldwide.
