It’s very heartbreaking,shocking, and sad news that Indian newsreader or journalist, Sarla Maheshwari died due to kidney failure at the age of 71 on February 12. She was living on dialysis for several years and is survived by her husband Dr Pavan Maheshwari with two children. She worked as a newsreader in Doordarshan between 1976 and 2005.

Sarla Maheshwari was born5 on April 11 in the year 1954 and done her graduation Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) in the subject of Hindi at the University of Delhi. After that, she completed her PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) at the University of Delhi and later, selected as an announcer for Doordarshan in the year 1976, which marks the starting of her career on television broadcasting and journalism. She also worked as a lecturer at Hansraj College, which is constituent college of the University of Delhi in the city of Delhi.
In her personal life, she married Pawan Maheshwari, who was a gastroenterologist, with two sons, Kavish Maheshwari and Himanshu Maheshwari.
Sarla Maheshwari stated her career as an announcer in Doordarshan in the year 1976 and later worked as a newsreader. At that time, she was a popular newsreader in those days when the main source of television news in India and worked as a newsreader about 29.years in Doordarshan. She also worked as a newsreader with the BBC in the United Kingdom and later rejoined Doordarshan.
I also remembered those days, when I watched news on Doordarshan in the 1990s when Sarla Maheshwari worked as a newsreader. She gradually gained popularity as a newsreader between 1980s and 1990s.
