RIP Dharmendra Sir

It’s a very heartbreaking, shocking, and sad news that Indian veteran actor, Dharmendra died at the age of 89 on November 24, 2025 at his home in the city of Mumbai and was survived by two wives, six children including Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Esha Deol, and thirteen grandchildren. He was popular in the best movie Sholay with Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, and Amjad Khan. The real name of Dharmendra was Dharmendra Kewal Krishnan Deol who also was considered the best actor in the history of Indian cinema. He worked in about 300 movies in his 65 years of film career.

Dharmendra was born on December 8, 1935 in the village of Nasrali in Ludhiana, Punjab during British rule in India and started his film career in the movie Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in the year 1960. Keshav Krishnan was the father and Satwant Kaur was the mother of Dharmendra. He was born in the Punjab Hindu Jat family and studied in the Government Senior Secondary School at Lalton Kalan in the city of Ludhiana.

Firstly, Dharmendra started his film career in the movie Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in the year 1960 and enhanced or gained popularity in several movies including Phool Aur Pathar, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, and Ayee Milan Ku Bela in the mid 1960s. He worked in several movies between the 1960s and 1980s are Yaadon Ki Baarat, Dharam Veer, Seeta Aur Geeta, Charas,  Mera Goan Mera Desh, Sholay, and Pratiggya. He worked in several movies in the 1990s are Yamla Pagal Deewana, Prem Kahani, Naakabandi, Zulm Ki Hukumat, Taaqat, Mafia, and many more. He also received or honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his great contributions to Indian cinema.

In the political career, Dharmendra won the Lok Sabha election in Bikaner, in the state of Rajasthan from the Bhartiya Janata Party in the year 2004. In his personal life, firstly Dharmendra married at the age of 19 to Prakash Kaur in the year 1954 before working in Bollywood Industry. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, two sons of Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur. Secondly, Dharmendra married to popular Indian film actress, Hema Malini for the second time after working in Bollywood Industry. Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, two daughters of Dharmendra and Hema Malini. In his life, Dharmendra mainly spent life with his first wife, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini lived independently with her children.

Dharmendra was honored by Padma Bhushan from the Indian Government in the year 2012. He was also honored by Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 1997. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the state of New Jersey in United States in the year 2020.

Earlier, Dharmendra was a alcohol addiction and had quit to drink alcohol in the year 2010. He had several health problems including muscle pain, weakness, and back pain that occasionally need hospitalization from the year 2015 to 2020. The cornea of left eye of Dharmendra was damaged so he underwent a corneal transplant surgery in the year 2025. Again he had admitted to Breach Candy Hospita in Mumbai on October 31, 2025 due to breathing issues. So he was to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital to observe and discharged in several hours.

Dharmendra was again admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in the city of Mumbai due to respiratory issues on November 10, 2025. But rumors of his died in social media websites when Dharmendra was on ventilator support and condition more critical. Dharmendra died at the age of 89  on November 24 due to age-related issues at his home in the city of Mumbai. The last rites of Dharmendra were held in Pawan Hans crematorium with family members and several close Bollywood Industry friends in the city of Mumbai.
