World Telecommunication Day 2025

Telecommunication is also called as telecom, which is the exchange of information over significant distances by electronic means and also refers to all types of videos, data, and voice communication. It is also the process of transmitting or sending information or data over a distance through several technologies including cable, satellite, or telephone lines. Telecommunication is also an important part of the modern world because it enables individuals to communicate with each other and access resources and information worldwide.

This global day is celebrated to spread awareness about the significance of telecommunication across the world. The main aim of this international day is to exhibit the importance of telecommunication and enhance awareness about its important role in our lives. World Telecommunication Day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of launching or introducing the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) on May 17 in the year 1865. It also marks the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865 while World Information Day highlights the significance of information technology across the world.

This international day provides an opportunity to share the benefits of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) which refers to all communication technologies such as wireless networks, video-conferences, Internet, smartphones, social networking, and many more services to allow users to receive, transmit, manipulate access information in a digital form.

World Telecommunication Day is celebrated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) every year on May 17 and is officially called as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. This global day highlights the impact of the Internet and many other communication tools on society. This International Day is celebrated every year on May 17 across the world since 1969.
