Personality Disorders – It is one of the mental health conditions that involves disruptive patterns of thinking, mood, behavior, long-lasting, all-encompassing, and many more that cause an individual distress or harm their capability to work. It also involves long-term patterns of behaviors and thoughts, which are different as compared with normal culture. A personality disorder is also characterized by continuing maladaptive patterns of behavior inner experience, and thoughts.

Individuals with personality disorders may not understand emotions and they act impulsively which makes a hard for them to others and may cause serious problems affecting their social activities, school performance, office work, family life, and many more. Personality disorders can also cause distorted or one-sided reality, irregular behavior, and distress in several aspects of life such as relationships, office work, social life, and many more.
Some people suffer from personality disorder started in the teen years or childhood days when their personality further develops and matures. As a result, most individuals are diagnosed with personality disorders which are above the age of 18. It is important to note that about 80 percent of people with personality disorders will begin to show signs or symptoms at the age of 11.
Symptoms – There are several symptoms of personality disorders are given below –
- Lack of trust and suspect individuals including family members, friends, and many more.
- Believe that someone may harm with no reason
- Becomes very angry over small things
- May suspect a partner is unfaithful or believe that their affair with another individual
- Live alone in a room
- Social Anxiety
- Thinks or feels strange
- Emotions changes rapidly
- More Aggressive
- Very sensitive to rejection or criticism
- Extremely shy in social gatherings or dealing with others
- Lack of confidence
Causes – Personality disorders are one of the least understood mental health conditions so our scientists are still finding the causes of this type of disorder. But there are several factors, which may cause the development of personality disorders are discussed below –
- Brain Changes – Scientists have identified complex brain differences in individuals with certain personality disorders.
- Childhood abuse or trauma – As per the study, childhood traumas may be the cause of the development of personality disorders. Individuals with antisocial and borderline personality disorders have problems or issues with trust and intimacy that may be associated with childhood trauma and abuse.
- Genetics – Researchers have identified a malfunctioning genetic factor, which may be the main cause of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. Scientists are also inspecting genetic links to anxiety, fear, and aggression which play an important role in personality disorders.
