My Visit to Mount Arafat in Mecca during Umrah

Mount Arafat, also known as the Mountain of Mercy or Jabal ar-Rahmah, is a granodiorite or granite hill located around 20 km from Mecca. It is 230ft (70m) high and is located in the plain of Arafat. Its highest or uppermost point is at an elevation or altitude of 1,490 ft or 454m in Saudi Arabia.

Mount Arafat is also a most important pilgrim site for Muslim pilgrims, especially at the time of performing Hajj in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. As per Islamic traditions, Mount Arafat is an important pilgrim site where Prophet Muhammad delivered his Farewell Sermon (Khutbat al-Wada) to his friends and relatives who had attended his last Hajj. It is also believed that Mount Arafat is a significant pilgrim site where Hazrat Aadam (Adam) and Hazrat Hawwa (Eve) reunion or reunited on Earth after falling from heaven. It is also believed that Mount Arafat is a pilgrim site where they were pardoned or forgiven thus this place is also called as Jabal ar-Rahmah, which means Mountain of Mercy.

Mount Arafat is a significant pilgrim place, especially at the time of Hajj on the 9th day of the Islamic Month of Dhu al-Hijjah and is also called the Day of Arafah when Muslim pilgrims leave Mina for Mount Arafat and is considered one of the most significant days of Hajj. At the time of Hajj, the sermon (khutbah) is delivered and also zuhr and asra namaz (prayers) are performed by Muslim Pilgrims together in this place. During Hajj, Muslim Pilgrims spend the entire day on Mount Arafat invoking or appealing to God (Allah) for forgiving their sins.

I also visited the Mount Arafat with our family members during Umrah. I was excited to visit the historic Mount Arafat in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
