Onam is celebrated every year mainly in the state of Kerala with passion which honors the return of the legendary King Mahabali and also starts the new year for the people of Kerala. The celebration of Onam also marks the beginning of the new year for the people of Kerala.

According to the Malayalam calendar, Onam is celebrated on the 22nd of Nakshatra Thiruvonam in the month of Chingam andis celebrated for 10 days between September 6 and September 15. Onam is the most important festival for the people of Kerala Kerala and is celebrated with great ceremony and passion.

Onam is celebrated for 10 days mainly in the state of Kerala and marks the return of the legendary King Mahabali. It is believed that the spirits of the generous King visit his subjects and bless them with prosperity during the duration of 10 days and it also marks the Malayalam New Year.

On this day, men and women wear traditional attires and celebration of flower decoration (Pookkalam), mask dance (Kummattikali), tiger dances (Pulikali), women’s dance (Thumbi Thullal), dance (Attachamayam), martial arts (Onathallu), and folk songs.
