English Language Day is celebrated every year on April 23 across the world to observe both the birthday and death anniversary of William Shakespeare, the most renowned writer in the English Language. William Shakespeare played an important role in influencing profoundly the evolution of modern English. The main purpose of this International Day is to celebrate and recognize the impact of the English Language across the world as an important tool for diplomacy, communication, and cultural exchange.

This international Day was established by the United Nations’s Department of Public Information in the year 2010 to celebrate cultural and multilingualism diversity and also encourage equal use of all 6 official languages throughout the organization. This global day is celebrated to honor the birth and death anniversaries of William Shakespeare, the most renowned writer in the English Language who had a profound or deep effect on the English Language.

Presently, English is a very important language, which is used as a professional speaking or writing language across the world. English serves as a bridge that enables communication between people with different native languages.
