RIP Ameen Sayani

It’s very heartbreaking news and very sad news that Indian iconic radio announcer, Ameen Sayani died at the age of 91 due to a heart attack on February 20, 2024. He was known for the most popular show Binaca Geetmala program. Binaca Geetmala was a popular radio show of famous film or movies songs from Hindi or Bollywood movies and with millions of listeners across India. This popular program was broadcast between 1952 and 1988 on Radio Ceylon and later moved or shifted to the Vividh Bharati Service of All India Radio network in the year 1989.

Ameen Sayani was one of the most popular radio presenters or announcers with a great or memorable style of addressing the listeners with ‘’Behno and Bhaiyo’’ as a melodious touch at that time. He had compered or produced or spoken about 54,000 radio programs and 19,000 jingles or spots from the year 1951. Hamid Sayani introduced Ameen Sayani to All India Radio, in Bombay. Ameen Sayani had participated in English programs for 10 years and later, he popularized All India Radio across the country. Ameen Sayani helps his mother Kulsum Sayani to print, edit, and publish a magazine journal for non-literates which is under the directions or instructions of popular Indian leader, Mahatma Gandhi. Sayani also produced a radio series in the form of plays of 13-episode which are based on actual AIDS/HIV cases by interviewing with social workers and doctors.
