Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day 2022

Introduction – Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is observed every year on October 15 across the world for pregnancy loss and infant death which includes sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), miscarriage, and the death of new born babies. This international day is celebrated in several locations including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and United States.

If any couple becomes a parent that is the most joyous moment in their life with a new born baby.  After marriage, the dream of every couple is to become a parent to their baby. After the birth of a child, it changes the life of couples with many responsibilities. During raising a baby, parents should take care of health and protection. But due to the bad or absence of medical facilities, many individuals are fear losing their infant babies. The main aim of this international day is to raise awareness about pregnancy and infant loss thus parents know where they can turn for help if they need it.

History – Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is established in the year 2002 to remember those babies who have passed away due to several poor medical facilities. Tammy Novak, Lisa Brown, and Robyn Bear requested the United States federal government to recognize this day on October 15. After that, National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day were approved in the House of Representatives on September 28, 2006. Previously, United States President, Ronald Reagan had designated as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness celebrated in the month of October. Many western countries including Canada UK, and the USA, observe this global day to spread awareness by discussing openly about pregnancy-related losses due to miscarriages. stillbirths, poor medical facilities, and many more causes that help in grieving those parents who lost their infant.

Significance – The main goal of this global day is to raise awareness about the causes of pregnancy and Infant loss across the world. On this day, the official colors are pink and blue that are related to this international day that is marked by prayers and candle marches throughout the country. It’s a huge pain for those couples who lost a new born kid that harm the mental health of parents and their family members. Thus, t is important to discuss about pregnancy-related loss and help or provide emotional support to those parents who lost their babies.
