Introduction – World Lion Day is celebrated every year on August 10 to raise awareness about the significance and conservation of lions across the world. Now, the population of lions is decreasing rapidly due to cutting forests and poaching. As per the report, the population of lions has reduced by around 95 percent across the world. Thus, Governments should take steps to conserve lions that help in increasing the population of lions all around the world.

History – Firstly, World Lion Day is celebrated in the year 2013 to save and increase the number of lions across the world. The main purpose of this global day is to spread awareness among people about the importance of lion conservation.

Significance – Lions play an important role in maintaining ecosystem balance by controlling the population of eating grass animals.  The preservation of lions is beneficial for protecting the green forests areas and is useful for biodiversity management. The Indian government is previously making efforts to protect and enhance the population of lions by implementing several projects and schemes. If the population of lions is rapidly reducing continuously, then it may be extinct and affects the balance of the ecosystems. As per a report, the population of lions is increased by 29 percent in India from 523 to 674 from the year 2015 to 2020.
