Introduction – Fitrah is a form of almsgiving by every Muslim at the end of Ramadan, the fasting month. It becomes mandatory from the sunset on the last day of Ramadan. Fitrah must be paid before the beginning of Eid-prayers. It is wajib for every Muslim whether male, female minor, adult, minor to less fortunate. According to Islamic tradition, it is compulsory and the head of the family must pay the required amount for other members.

Purpose – Fitra offers the needs of the poor for celebrating Eid with other members of the society without asking for charity. It also provides the poor or needy people that they can celebrate with dignity the Eid-ul-Fitr festival which concludes the end of the Ramadan with the rest of the community.

Amount – Each person should give charity equivalent to 2.6 to 3kg of grain. The minimum amount per person is about Rs 100.
