I absolutely don’t understand cricket, but one of the best films I’ve ever seen is “Lagaan”, where villagers beat an oppressive tax imposed on them by ruthless British rulers – this was 1893 – by learning how to play cricket, then playing the arrogant British officer and other soldiers with a bet that they’d be relieved of the tax if the won. Then they won! It was a great story, a lovely, upbeat film. Apparently Indian teams still rule!
