Introduction – World Post Day is observed on October 9 annually to mark the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) that was established in Switzerland in the year 1874. Several countries celebrate this day every year all around the world.
History – The Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress was held in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1969 and declared that World Post Day is celebrated on October 9 every year worldwide. India plays an important role in the inauguration of this international day. After the International Telecommunication Union, UPU is the second oldest international organization.
Theme – The theme of World Post Day in the year 2021 is ‘’Innovate to recover’’ to recognize the role of postal services that played an important role in connecting people during lockdown when the Covid-19 was spread at that time.

Now we may use digital services to connect with friends and family members globally. But postal services are still important position all around the world. The main purpose of this day is to spread awareness about the importance of postal services in daily life and honors their contribution to global economic and social development.
When there was no Internet then postal services play an important to connect people all over the world. India also participates in a weekly celebration on October 9 every year that marks the day by introducing new products and services in the postal services.
