It’s a very proud moment for our country that Indian boxer, Lovlina Borgohain confirmed the second medal for India. On day 7 of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the great performance by Lovlina Borgohain against Chinese Taipei Nien -Chin and defeated her by (4-1) in the women’s welterweight quarter-final. She will qualify for the semifinal and be confirmed the second medal in the women’s boxing in the 69 kg category for our country.

Now, Lovlina will be contested against the reigning world champion Buseanaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the semifinals. In past, she also won several bronzes in various tournaments such as Dubai Asian Championships (Welterweight) in 2021, Ulan-Ude World Championship (Welterweight) in 2019, New World Championship (Welterweight) in 2018, and Ho Chi Minh City Asian Championships (Welterweight in 2017. Lovlina Borgohain also received the Arjun award in the year 2020.

Lovlina Borgohain has become the first woman in Assam to qualify for the Olympics. She is the second boxer to represent India after Shiva Thapa from Assam and become the sixth person to receive Arjun Award in 2020 from Assam.
