It’s interesting how Valentine’s Day has developed in your country. It was originally a very old Roman “pairing” (young women with young men) event that was displaced by recognition of St. Valentine, an early Christian martyr who cared for the destitute. Of course, this was also designed to turn people away from the old Roman religion and toward Christianity. It has managed to retain its association with romantic love, though.
Lots of people here see it as nothing more than a crass attempt at making money, so they deliberately avoid celebrating it.
