The Agra-Lucknow Expressway was inaugurated by Mr. Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on November 21st 2016. It is a sign of development works in Uttar Pradesh and is the longest expressway in India and distance at about 302km.
The main objective of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway is to reduce traffic and driving time between Lucknow and Agra. This will also result in drive time between Lucknow and Noida via Agra. The expressway is built by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority. The current journey time between Agra and Lucknow at 7 hours on an average might get reduced to 3.30 hours via the expressway. It is a 6-lane expressway and will be expanding into 8-lanes in upcoming years.
The cost of the expressway is likely to be at Rs 15,000 crore. However, the project was completed in 22 months at a cost of Rs 13,200 crore. The 302km expressway will cover 8 districts including Lucknow, Mohaan, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Shikohabad, Firozabad, and finally Agra. The expressway is linked with the Agra Ring Road and also connected from Greater Noida, NCR to Lucknow through Agra. It also crosses five rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Isan, Sai and Kalyani. The Agra Lucknow expressway will begin from village Etmadpur madra near Agra and to village Sarosa Bharosa close to Mohan Road Lucknow. The Government provides good facilities on the expressway that include rest houses, petrol pumps, service centers, restaurants and four agricultural mandis for trading of dairy products, grains, fruits and vegetables.
The expressway links with cities including Mohaan, Kannauj, Mainpuri and Shikohabad, opening doors for the opportunities for development due to being directly connected with Lucknow and Agra.
The Agra Lucknow expressway is a public highway that can be used for landing aircrafts in emergency situations such as when the aircrafts might be required for rescue processes due to natural disasters.
Agra-Lucknow expressway is the country’s first road runway for IAF combat jets. The Agra Lucknow expressway has opened in December 2016 for general public. This highway has many positive aspects such as completion in record time, cost less than budget and a quality to allow aircraft landing. Surely, this is going to be a project that the entire Uttar Pradesh can be proud of.
