World Asthma Day 2026

World Asthma Day is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday in May which means on May 5 in the year 2026 worldwide to raise awareness about a chronic lung disease, asthma which may affect people of all ages. This international day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about asthma all around the world. The main purpose of this Global Day is to bring together patients, organizations, and doctors to empower those individuals who are suffering from asthma and provide them with a better life  across the world.

This Global Day was first celebrated in the year 1998, which was organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and was established in the year 1993. The main purpose of this International Day is to raise awareness about the difficulties that are faced by individuals who are suffering from asthma worldwide.

Asthma is one of the most common chronic non-communicable diseases which may affect millions of people across the world. It is characterized by narrowing of the airways and inflammation which may cause several symptoms such as chest tightness, difficulty in breathing, continuous coughing, problem in sleeping, and many more. Asthma may be caused by genetic causes thus, if there is any asthma in siblings or parents then it may be inherited or hereditary to other people

Several environmental factors that may cause asthma including air pollution and allergies. There is no treatment for asthma but it can manage by proper medication and rescue inhalers. An asthma attack is a sudden or unexpected worsening of asthma symptoms which is mainly caused by the tightening of muscles in your airways and this tightening is known as bronchospasm. The lining of the airways may also become inflamed or swollen with thicker mucus during an asthma attack. Asthma is categorized into several types are given below –
