World Malaria Day 2026

World Malaria Day is celebrated once a year on April 25 worldwide to raise awareness about the causes, symptoms, and harmful effects of malaria. This global day highlights the effort to end or cure malaria and to educate individuals about the causes and prevention of malaria. The main aim of this international day is to spread awareness about the life-threatening disease, malaria and efforts to eliminate the disease all over the world.

Malaria is a life-threatening disease, which is caused by Plasmodium parasites and are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. This disease is treatable and preventable but malaria is still common in subtropical and tropical countries. Malaria is very common in tropical areas where the weather is hot and humid. It may occur across the world but especially in those countries with high humidity and warm temperature

There are several symptoms of Malaria are

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Muscle or Joint pain

Malaria starts with chills, shivering, and a high fever with sweating that back to normal temperature. You can prevent or reduce the risk of malaria by applying insect repellent to your skin, covering your skin, sleeping under a net, preventing stored water that is responsible for producing a large number of mosquitoes, and many more. Proper sanitation and hygiene may prevent or lower the risk of getting infected with malaria which makes a malaria-free world.
