Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most important festivals for Muslims, which will celebrate on March 20 or 21 in the year 2026, which may depend on sighting of the moon. It is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal depending on the moon sighting on the 29th or 30th day of Ramadan. It is important to note that Muslims are not allowed to fast on this day of Eid. This festival is the Thanksgiving Day to God (Allah) after the successful the completion of fasting (Roza) during the sacred month of Ramadan. The Muslims keep fast (Roza) for 29 or 30 days after seeing the “Ramadan moon” before the Eid celebration. After the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan, they once again see the moon of Eid and finish their fasts. On this day, when the fasts (Roza) are over, they celebrate the Eid festival with their family members and friends worldwide.

Eid is an Arabic word that means festival or feast. Similarly, Fitr is also an Arabic word meaning breaking of fast just like Iftar throughout the blessed month of Ramadan. Islam promotes social gatherings in the form of Salaat (Namaz), such as five times daily prayer (Namaz) for the area where we live, Friday prayer (Namaz)) for local people, Eid Namaz for the entire area. It is a system to meet people in your town to know the welfare of the people in that area or whole city.
Muslims first take baths in the early morning, wear new clothes with applying perfumes, and gather for a special namaz (prayer)at mosques on Eid-ul-Fitr. After the special prayer (namaz) at their mosques, people greet or embrace, or hug each other, and wish Eid Mubarak or Happy Eid. Sweets (Sawai) are prepared at their homes and Eidie (gifts) are given to the younger or needy or poor individuals. Muslims also decorate their houses with twinkling lights to celebrate Eid.
Zakat or Fitrah is an essential for Muslims to give zakat and firtah (charity) or to donate to the poor people before Eid celebrations. It is mandatory for every Muslim and the head of the family must pay the amount of charity for all needy family members or poor individuals before Eid Prayer (Namaz). Thus, in the holy month of Ramadan, all Muslims continue their fast until the last day of Ramzan and pay the Zakat and Fitrah before offering the Eid prayers (Namaz).
