Shaban is one of the sacred months and the 8th month of the Islamic calendar, serving as a spiritual bridge between the sacred month of Rajab and the holy fasting month of Ramzan. The month of Shaban is highly recommended for fasting (Roza) because the Prophet Muhammad observed fasts (Roza) more frequently than in other months, excluding the holy month of Ramzan.

The month of Shaban may start on January 21 in the year 2026, as it is the 8th and most significant month of the Islamic or Hijri calendar, and is the last lunar month before the holy month of Ramadan. The term Shaban comes from the Sha’ aba’, which is an Arabic word that means ‘emerge’, or ‘branch out’ which holds great importance in Islam. As per Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad would offer fast (Roza) more in the holy or sacred month of Shaban than in any other month, excluding Ramadan.

5 Shaban marks or celebrates the birth anniversary (Wiladat) of Imam Zayn al-Abidin, who is the fourth Imam. 5 Shaban is observed on January 25 in the year 2026 and is mainly celebrated by Shia Muslims with increased worship and celebration. Most Shia Individuals celebrate the birth anniversary (Wiladat) of Imam Zayn al-Abidin at their homes or in Karbala. Several individuals go to Karbala to offer ziarat and celebrate the birth anniversary of Imam Zayn al-Abidin with increased worship and celebration. Many individuals offer fast (Roza) to celebrate the birth anniversary (Wiladat) of Imam Zayn al-Abidin.
